چکیده

most abundant corresponding to approximately 9% of the drosophilids collected in Tandil. This is probably a species originally from the Argentinean Chaco which was distributed by humans – together with its host Opuntia ficus-indica – to many parts of the world (Tidon-Sklorz and Sene, 1999). Although this is still a preliminary study of the drosophilid fauna in Tandil, the diversity of the sampled species (10) was greater than that observed in areas near to those where we made our study. Iriarte and López (1995), evaluating during the four seasons of the year the fauna of these insects in the city of Mar del Plata, registered the occurrence of only seven species of which six were sampled in the present study. Data such as this suggest that further sampling of drosophilids should be made, during the different seasons of the year in Buenos Aires province. Dietary Intake of Curcuma longa and Emblica officinalis Increases Life Span in Drosophila melanogaster

Intake of food and nutrition plays a major role in affecting aging process and longevity. However, the precise mechanisms underlying the ageing process are still unclear. To this respect, diet has been considered to be a determinant of ageing process. In order to better illustrate this, we used Drosophila melanogaster as a model and fed them orally with different concentrations of two commonly ...

Lifespan Extension by the Antioxidant Curcumin in Drosophila Melanogaster

The interest in health benefits associated with consumption of anti-oxidants has led to investigations examining the possibility that diets rich in anti-oxidants promote lifespan extension. Studies using the standard fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) model of longevity have shown that the antioxidants vitamin E and N-acetyl cysteine prolong lifespan. Turmeric is a spice which has been consume...

Effects of curcuminoids identified in rhizomes of Curcuma longa on BACE-1 inhibitory and behavioral activity and lifespan of Alzheimer’s disease Drosophila models

BACKGROUND Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common type of presenile and senile dementia. The human β-amyloid precursor cleavage enzyme (BACE-1) is a key enzyme responsible for amyloid plaque production, which implicates the progress and symptoms of AD. Here we assessed the anti-BACE-1 and behavioral activities of curcuminoids from rhizomes of Curcuma longa (Zingiberaceae), diarylalkyls cur...

Rosemary Extract Mediated Lifespan Extension in Drosophila Melanogaster

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) has always known a versatile, aromatic herb and addition to being used as a food flavoring is also known medicinally for its powerful antioxidant activity, antibacterial and hepatoprotective properties. In this study we examined the effects of rosemary iextract on the lifespan and aging in Drosophila melanogaster against high-fat induced oxidative injury, an...

Aconitase and Developmental EndPointsasEarly IndicatorsofCellularToxicity Induced by Xenobiotics in Drosophila Melanogaster

Background: In this study, the toxicity of the different xenobiotics was tested on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster model system.  Methods: Fly larvae were raised on food supplemented with xenobioticsat different concentrations (sodium nitroprusside (0.1-1.5 mM), S-nitrosoglutathione (0.5-4 mM), and potassium ferrocyanide (1 mM)). Emergence of flies, food intake by larvae, and pupation h...
